Paul Verhoeven wint Golden Globe met film Elle
Regisseur Paul Verhoeven heeft een Golden Globe gewonnen voor zijn Franse thriller Elle. Hij versloeg met zijn controversiële film onder meer de Duitse favoriet, de komedie Toni Erdmann.
Elle gaat over een vrouw (Isabelle Huppert) die op zoek gaat naar haar verkrachter. Verhoeven prees bij de uitreiking de filmpers die de Golden Globes uitreikt. "Fijn dat jullie allemaal zo openminded zijn", zei hij. Er was enkele weken geleden veel kritiek toen bleek dat Elle de shortlist van de Oscars niet had gehaald.

Soldaat van Oranje
De 78-jarige Verhoeven was eenmaal eerder genomineerd voor een Golden Globe: in 1980 maakte Soldaat van Oranje kans op het beeldje. Toen viste Verhoeven achter het net.
Het is de eerste speelfilm van de Nederlander in tien jaar tijd. De film ging eerder dit jaar in première op het filmfestival van Cannes en werd ook daar zeer enthousiast ontvangen.
